Independence Day is a national holiday in Croatia and as such is a non-working day celebrated on October 8th. Although many Croatian citizens associate it with the weekend for short trips , many do not know the history and meaning of this newly introduced holiday. On October 8, 1991, the Croatian Parliament unanimously adopted the Decision on the Termination of State-Legal Relations of the Republic of Croatia with Other Republics and Provinces of the Yugoslavia. The Parliament stated that the Republic of Croatia no longer considered legitimate and legal any body of the former Yugoslavia and that it did not recognize as valid any legal act of any body acting on behalf of the former Federation, which no longer exists as such.
